Shenandoah County Soccer League House Rules
Ages and Requirements
The Shenandoah County Soccer League has recreation divisions for under age six (U6) through under age fifteen (U15).  Fall season games begin the weekend after Labor Day.  Spring season games begin either the last week in March or the first week in April.  There are no games on Easter weekend, Memorial Day weekend or Labor Day weekend.

Registration forms must be completed and signed (both the registration and medical/insurance form) with payment and a copy of the birth certificate (for first time players) attached in order to play.  There will be no late registration forms accepted.  Your coach will give you a Parents' Code of Ethics form to read, sign and abide by, which he/she will keep for the duration of the season.

U6 teams practice/play for one hour on Saturdays, using the first half of the hour for practice and the second half hour to scrimmage.  U6 teams may practice one night during the week at the coach's discretion.  The U6 division is basically an introduction to soccer, with a relaxed and informal atmosphere.  U8-U15 teams practice one evening during the week and compete in one game per weekend (usually Saturdays with an occasional Sunday afternoon game).  U10, U12 & U15 teams may practice up to two times per week at the coach's discretion, based on practice field availability.  All U6-U15 games are played in the small-sided format with fewer players on the team and field during a game on a sized down field.

For the Spring season of 2013, age eligibility requirements for each league-sponsored age division will be: ("U" stands for "under")

  • U6 Age Group: Must be 4 or 5 years old as of 8/1/2012
  • U8 Age Group: Ages 6 and 7 as of 8/1/2012
  • U10 Age Group: Ages 8 and 9 as of 8/1/2012
  • U12 Age Group: Ages 10 and 11 as of 8/1/2012
  • U15 Age Group: Ages 12, 13 and 14 as of 8/1/2012

Older and experienced players may want to try out for the Travel Teams for age divisions U10 to U19.  For information on the Travel Teams, please call the Travel Teams Commissioner, Paschalis Dagkalidis at 335-7356.

Soccer shin guards and tennis shoes or soccer cleats are required to play, no baseball or football cleats.  Please provide your child with a water bottle at practices and games and a soccer ball for practices.  Parents take turns providing snacks/drinks for after the games, if desired by the coach.

Rain-out Policy
SCSL bylaws state that up to ten minutes before a game is scheduled to start, it is the call of the coaches to decide whether to play a game in inclement weather.  After that it is the call of the referees.  Reasons for canceling/discontinuing a game include thunder/lightning, standing water, or other unsafe field conditions.  The league board does not make the decision to cancel games.  Contact your coach before a game if you are unsure whether it has been rained out.
Important Information (Please note)
  • Registration forms are dated and numbered in the order they are received for team placement purposes.
  • Due to the varying number of registrants in each age group and availability of coaches, some teams may be made up of players from different areas of the county.
  • You may request NOT to have a certain coach.  Additionally, a coach may request not to have a specific player.  Other special requests can no longer be considered due to the large number of players registering each season.
